Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart receiving the "KEY" to the City at Woodrow Wilson Park-July 26, 1969
BOYCE AND HART get keys to city.....
Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart celebrated their fifth anniversary in the entertainment world with a bi-city birthday party
that included a guitar shaped birthday cake, the keys to two cities, and honorary lieutenant colonel memberships to the governors
staff.
It began Friday in Montgomery when the young composer performers were made honorary citizens of Alabama and received
their titles and a key to the city of Montgomery at a ceremony prior to their evening concert.
At the show they were presented with a gigantic birthday cake, the actual size and shape of a guitar, which they shared
with about 40 children at the Elks Memorial Center for the handicapped on Saturday afternoon.
Later on Saturday, in Birminghams Woodrow Wilson Park, Councilman Alan Drennen presented the singers with a key to the
city of Birmingham on behalf of the kids whom he described as the best behaved, best looking and grooviest anywhere.
Hundreds were on hand to cheer, shout and wave posters as TV cameras ground, shooting scenes that will appear later on
the Joey Bishop, Happening and Boyce and Hart network shows.
The crowd that gathered was predominately young, of the type usually described as clean cut, wholesome, and all-American.
Boyce and Hart responded in their fans unrestrained admiration by passing out autographs, photographs, day glow stickers,
smiles and kisses.
Boyce and Hart were here to appear in the WVOK Summer Shower of Stars on Saturday evening at the Birmingham Municipal
Auditorium.
