Mr. Alan Burns another great DJ from The Voice of Dixie, WVOK.
Note From Mr. Alan Burns: I'm very late in getting this to you! Thanks so much for remembering WVOK....I was a very small
part of it - weekends from June 1968 to about June 1969 - but it's a big part of me! Learned a lot, met a lot of great people,
and had a lot of fun. I owe a debt of gratitude to Dan Brennan for hiring me, and then not firing me!
Helping MC the Shower of Stars shows was an amazing experience for a kid just a year out of Carrollton (Ala) High School.
How do you top being asked for your autograph at age 17?
From 'VOK I went to program WVOV in Huntsville while doing a year at UAH, then back to WTBC and Tuscaloosa to finish college.
From there, a short stint on the radio in Denver, then to Chicago where I worked for WLS. I grew up listening to WVOK in the
daytime, and WLS at night....and getting to be on the air at both stations in my career was very special.
After Chicago, I spent 20 years in Washington, DC programming a radio station (WRQX) and later launching my radio station
consulting company, Alan Burns and Associates. We're still going great guns, have offices in the U.S. and in Berlin, and working
with stations all over the U.S. and Europe. A year ago (June 2005) my wife and I moved from DC down to Orange Beach, Al, and
we're loving the sunshine, the weather (hurricanes excluded, of course), the beach, and being back home in Alabama.
Thanks again for keeping the memories alive!
Thanks Alan and we wish you continued success!!!
